Jada Sellers Case Incident: Suspect Christian Hursey Found Dead After Teen’s Tragic Killing

The tragic case surrounding 17-year-old Jada Sellers has taken another devastating turn after Christian Hursey, the 18-year-old man wanted in connection with her killing, was found dead during a police operation in Woodlawn, Maryland.

Baltimore Police said officers were serving a search warrant at a residence at approximately 8:30 p.m. Thursday, August 20, when they heard a single gunshot coming from the basement. Officers entered the area and found Hursey suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jada Sellers, a 17-year-old student at Milford Mill Academy, was shot shortly after midnight on July 31 in the 700 block of Lyndhurst Street in Southwest Baltimore. She was critically injured and spent 12 days in the hospital before dying from her injuries on August 12, surrounded by loved ones at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Jada was remembered by family and members of her school community as a talented young woman with a promising future. Her cousin, Rev. Heber Brown III, said she was a scholar who loved dance and cheer and had made a significant impact despite her young age.

Christian Hursey Wanted in Jada’s Killing

Baltimore Police publicly identified Christian Hursey, 18, as the suspect wanted in connection with Jada’s killing on August 20. Investigators said evidence and witness accounts led them to identify Hursey as the person suspected of shooting Sellers.

Jada’s family told CBS Baltimore that Hursey and Jada had previously been in a relationship and that he had been welcomed into their home and known to the family.

Police had described Hursey as armed and dangerous and were seeking information leading to his arrest. A combined reward of $11,500 had been offered by Metro Crime Stoppers and the U.S. Marshals Service.
