Tavarshea Daveon Sims, 31, of Killeen, Texas, and Shane Demeair Taylor, 39, of Cameron, Texas, died following a serious multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 35 in Belton on Thursday evening, August 20, 2026. Their deaths have left family, friends, and loved ones mourning two lives lost in a devastating highway collision.

I-35 Crash in Belton

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred shortly after 8 p.m. on northbound I-35 near mile marker 294 at the Leon River Bridge. Sims was driving a 2026 Hyundai Elantra, while a 2016 Nissan Altima operated by a 23-year-old Killeen man was traveling alongside the Hyundai.

Investigators said the Nissan driver made an unsafe lane change across the northbound lanes and collided with the Hyundai. The Hyundai then struck the guardrail. Witnesses reported that both vehicles had been traveling at a high rate of speed and weaving around slower traffic before the collision.

Sims was ejected from the Hyundai and pronounced dead at the scene. Taylor, who was a rear passenger in the Hyundai, was transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple, where he later died from his injuries.

A female passenger in the Hyundai was also seriously injured and transported to a hospital. The driver of the Nissan suffered incapacitating injuries and was hospitalized.
